About the role

Serves as a Shift Supervisor of Courtyard Café for Dartmouth Dining Services, ensuring smooth operation of service, customer satisfaction, and enforcement of safety and sanitary procedures and policies. Assists in other Dining areas when Courtyard Café is closed.

Responsibilities

• Shift Operations: Independently oversees and participates in the day-to-day shift operations, including opening and/or closing of Courtyard Café; verifies cash in safe and register banks and sets up RDT (remote data terminals) cash registers; assigns and reassigns workforce to balance customer service needs and food preparation timing; enforces health and sanitation policies and proper handling/preparation of food; ensures observance of liquor license laws when applicable; responds to customer comments/complaints; oversees cleanliness and general appearance of café; counts cash, closes out shift sales, and prepares reports on receipts.
• Workforce Supervision: Provides daily supervision to 20 union employees and temporary and student staff; trains new employees in all aspects of food service operations; ensures adequate staff distribution and determines when additional staff is needed; communicates management policies and relays employee concerns; monitors and evaluates work performance; identifies performance problems and recommends training or corrective action; implements disciplinary measures when necessary.
• Inventory & Facility/Equipment Maintenance: Maintains and analyzes daily inventory counts and places orders with specified vendors; receives and stores deliveries and ensures stock rotation; generates reports on sales and product movement; monitors sales and recommends changes based on costs or item popularity; makes recommendations regarding menu development and cost/price analysis; maintains surveillance over physical facility, ensuring security and proper closing procedures; acts to preclude unauthorized uses of facilities and intervenes in disturbances; notifies Security when assistance is needed.
• Miscellaneous: Attends training seminars to stay current with food service and supervisory policies; attends ServSafe training and renews certification as required; sets customer service tone and addresses needs of a diverse community; assists with limited catering as needed; works at other satellite areas within Dartmouth Dining as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalency.
• Four or more years of general food service experience.
• Supervisory experience.
• Valid driver’s license and qualified under Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced food operation and make decisions under pressure.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with customers and supervise employees.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to shift attention to changing details while maintaining accuracy and timing of food preparation and scheduling.
• Knowledge of sanitation regulations and policies and ability to obtain a sanitation certification.
• Knowledge of computer operations and familiarity with remote data terminals.
• Ability to communicate respectfully with a diverse community.

Schedule

• Tuesday–Thursday: 10:00 am–6:30 pm
• Friday & Saturday: 11:00 am–7:30 pm
• Sunday & Monday: Off

Pay

• Hiring range: $28.00–$30.81 per hour
