Shelter Aide Per-Diem ($17.50/Hr)

About the role

Catholic Charities of Onondaga County seeks a Shelter Worker to help direct and assist clients in routine shelter activities such as meals, laundry, and housekeeping. The position involves responding to client and shelter emergencies, assisting and advocating for clients, explaining and maintaining shelter policies and procedures, and helping with routine shelter maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Direct and assist clients in routine shelter activities such as meals, laundry, and housekeeping.
• Respond to client and shelter emergencies and notify appropriate personnel in a timely fashion.
• Aid and advocate for clients to suggest appropriate programs and services.
• Explain and maintain shelter policies and procedures.
• Assist with routine shelter maintenance.
• Maintain guidelines established by funding sources and Catholic Charities policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Entry H.S. Diploma/G.E.D. with three (3) years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Experience working with a specific population preferred.
• N.Y.S. Child Abuse Registry clearance required.

Work Conditions and Environment

• Must be able to drive to and participate in meetings at client's homes and/or community facilities which may not meet Federal accessibility standards for disabled individuals.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to work with children/adults in a challenging and active environment.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.

Pay and Schedule

The Shelter Worker position pays $17.50 per hour and operates on an on-call schedule from 4pm to 12am and 12-8am.
