Sewer Collection Maintenance & Repair Technician Series
Nature of Work, Essential Functions & KSA's
Under the immediate supervision of the Division Supervisor and under the general supervision of the Utilities Field Superintendent, performs semi-skilled and skilled labor in the maintenance, inspection, construction, repair and service work of the City's utility services including water distribution, sanitary sewer collection and storm water collection systems. May be assigned to any division within the Public Utilities Department as a substitute for individuals on vacation, sick leave, etc., or during heavy workload periods. This position is subject to emergency callouts and must be able to work both scheduled and unscheduled overtime, including nights, weekends and stand-by, as required.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
The primary duties of this position are performed in an outdoor environment and include working in adverse weather conditions, in confined or elevated spaces, vehicular traffic, and hazards involving the use of power tools and equipment.
- Sufficient hearing ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, emergency signals, vehicle back-up warnings and to communicate with other employees and the general public.
- Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, technical documents, and diagrams.
- Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate power equipment and hand tools.
- Sufficient strength to lift and carry objects over fifty (50) pounds for varying distances.
- Sufficient mobility, flexibility, stamina, and balance to perform maintenance and repair operations that require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, and other physical exertions. Work involves climbing and working on ladders and moving over rough or unfamiliar terrain.
- Ability to perform relatively heavy manual work for extended periods of time and the ability to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions.
Training, Experience, and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, to ensure the ability to read, write, and perform basic math.
- Experience in municipal utility systems maintenance or civil construction.
- Technician I - one (1) year preferred
- Technician II - two (2) years required, including experience in the operation of heavy equipment.
