About the role
Join Mohawk Industries, a Fortune 500 global flooring leader, and contribute to more customer solutions, process improvements, and sustainable manufacturing. This role focuses on maintaining the Coater (Machine) operation by ensuring a steady supply of carpet rolls.
Responsibilities
- Sew rolls of carpet in a timely manner to keep the Coater supplied.
- Verify roll information matches the schedule by scanning roll tickets into the system and confirming AS400 data.
- Properly align carpet on the sewing rail and trim the minimum amount to achieve a straight edge.
- Sew carpet rolls together and monitor for holes or other defects.
- Tape holes and keep J-Boxes filled with carpet.
- Respond quickly to equipment or process issues and closely monitor the carpet.
- Maintain a clean work area and conform to safe work practices.
- Report quality and safety problems to management and ensure the quality and safety of your own output.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Basic English grammar, reading, and math skills.
- Ability to communicate on a 2-way radio and speak English.
- Interpersonal skills, manual dexterity, mechanical skills, and judgment skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
- Carpet mechanical skills preferred.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to stoop, kneel, stand, walk, crouch, reach, handle, sit, climb, and balance.
- Able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Must be able to work 8 or 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekdays, or weekends as scheduled.
- Must be able to work a 12-hour shift to fill in for coworkers as needed.
Work Environment
Work in a normal industrial environment with inherent background noise, dirt, high humidity, and temperature variations. The role involves regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and precarious places.
