Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Set up and operate various machining equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machines. Perform routine adjustments and calibrations to ensure machinery operates efficiently and produces accurate results. Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed to maintain quality and production standards.
- Blueprint Reading and Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret technical blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements. Use precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to verify dimensions and tolerances of machined parts.
- Quality Control: Inspect and measure finished parts to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications. Identify and troubleshoot any defects or deviations from specifications and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Maintenance and Safety: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure they are in good working condition. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe working environment. Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the supervisor.
- Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of machine settings, production runs, and any issues encountered during machining. Document and report on production quantities, quality control findings, and maintenance activities.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other machinists, programmers, and production staff to coordinate tasks and ensure smooth workflow. Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production goals, issues, and improvements.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for improving machining processes and efficiency. Stay informed about new machining techniques, tools, and technologies to enhance skills and contribute to process improvements.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machinist training program or an associate degree in a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in machining or a related manufacturing role.
- Skills: Proficiency in operating a variety of machining equipment and tools. Strong understanding of technical drawings, blueprints, and machining specifications. Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately. Knowledge of material properties and machining techniques. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Basic computer skills for machine programming and record-keeping.
Work Environment
Manufacturing or workshop setting with exposure to machining equipment and materials. May involve standing for extended periods and working with loud machinery.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and move materials or components as needed up to 50 lbs. Capable of performing tasks that involve repetitive motions and manual dexterity.
