About the role

This position is part of the first course in a two-semester sequence designed to develop college-level thinking and writing skills. It engages students in speaking and writing assignments of increasing complexity, focusing on essay writing.

Responsibilities

• Teach 3-6 credits in subject area of expertise using teaching practices that have been shown to be effective for first-generation students.
• Provide an up-to-date syllabus for students.
• Maintain an engaging and welcoming classroom setting that promotes high standards and inclusivity.
• Actively contribute to a professional learning community by participating in professional development that promotes pedagogical learning and growth.
• Be present and available to students on campus during office hours.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in the subject area required; doctorate preferred.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and use of active-learning pedagogy.
• Commitment to engaging students beyond the classroom experience.
• Willingness to continuously improve teaching practices and collaborate within a learning community.
• Strong commitment to serving a diverse student population, including underserved, minority, and first-generation college students.
• A student-centered philosophy aligned with the mission of the University of Mount Saint Vincent to educate the whole person.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
• Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving.
• Experience working with HEOP students is highly encouraged.
