About the Role

Emergency posting for a Sessional Lecturer to teach PHL265H1F Introduction to Political Philosophy, a university credit course at the University of Toronto's St. George campus. The course is an introduction to central issues in political philosophy, such as political and social justice, liberty, and the criteria of good government, considering writings of contemporary political philosophers and major figures in the history of philosophy. Estimated enrolment is 200 students with 450 hours of TA support.

Course Schedule & Dates

  • Lectures: Mondays 18:00–20:00
  • Tutorials: Thursdays 18:00–21:00
  • Sessional dates: September 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026

Responsibilities

  • Design and teaching of a university credit course
  • Preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration, and marking of assignments
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Holding office hours

Qualifications

  • Minimum: Ph.D. in philosophy; strong academic record and professional promise; ongoing research and scholarly publications in the field; relevant and recent teaching experience
  • Preferred: Clearly demonstrated teaching excellence in the subject matter

Pay

  • Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.48 (includes vacation pay)
  • Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term: $10,699.22
  • Sessional Lecturer II: $10,699.22
  • Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term: $10,953.96
  • Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96
  • Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term: $11,228.90

Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
