Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course material
  • Managing digital teaching materials
  • Preparation and delivery of assignments
  • Final reviews and deferred final reviews
  • Marking of student work
  • Submission of grades
  • Holding office hours
  • Responding to student enquiries, appeals and petitions

Requirements

  • MLA, MSc or PhD in Landscape Architecture, Landscape Ecology, Forestry, Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Urban Forestry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in landscape ecology, urban ecology, vegetation ecology, ecological design, biodiversity conservation, landscape connectivity, and green infrastructure planning.
  • Experience teaching at the university level, including delivering lectures, leading field-based instruction, and evaluating graduate-level student work.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ecological assessment methods, including vegetation and tree assessment, landscape analysis, ecological restoration, conservation planning, and landscape fragmentation.
  • Ability to supervise student fieldwork, scientific writing, presentations, and collaborative team projects focused on ecological landscape assessment and design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience teaching graduate courses in landscape ecology, urban ecology, ecological restoration, landscape planning, urban forestry, or ecological design.
  • Professional or applied research experience in ecological landscape planning, urban forest management, conservation planning, green infrastructure, or climate-resilient landscape design.
  • Experience leading field studies involving vegetation inventories, tree health assessments, landscape ecological analysis, and site-based ecological evaluations.
  • Knowledge of green systems planning to support ecological assessment to support broad-scale landscape plans.

Pay

  • Sessional Lecturer I: $9,997.48
    Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $10,699.22
    Sessional Lecturer II: $10,699.22
    Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,953.96
    Sessional Lecturer III: $10,953.96
    Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $11,228.90

Schedule

  • All inclusive of vacation pay.
  • Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Benefits

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
