About the role

Course: JLS476H1F – Linguistics Workforce

This course exposes students to research and practical approaches in the context of health professions of relevance to linguistics students, especially audiology and speech-language pathology. Students learn about evidence-informed practice, research methodologies, practice approaches and theories in the health professions. Students will be poised to benefit from optional service learning placements during or following the course, in research laboratories or clinical settings. Successful completion of this course provides students with exposure and experience of use in their applications to audiology, speech-language pathology, and other clinical programs and in their future health or graduate studies.

Estimated course enrolment: 40 undergraduates
Estimated TA support: 1 TA @ 40 hours
Class schedule: Thursdays 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2026 - December 31, 2026

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Holding regular office hours
  • Supervision of Teaching Assistants or Graders as required

The instructor is expected to be fully available for the duration of the employment period and be in geographical proximity to the University.

Requirements

  • Solid background in speech-language pathology
  • Mastery of the course material, including ongoing research related to the course material and clinical experience in SLP
  • Previous experience as an instructor in JLS courses

Qualifications

  • A Master's or PhD in a relevant field is preferred
  • Previous experience working with Teaching Assistants/Graders is desirable
  • Excellent teaching evaluations and relevant active research are an asset

Pay

Salary (includes Vacation Pay):

  • Sessional Lecturers I: $9,997.47
  • Sessional Lecturers I (Long Term): $10,699.21
  • Sessional Lecturers II: $10,699.21
  • Sessional Lecturers II (Long Term): $10,953.96
  • Sessional Lecturers III: $10,953.96
  • Sessional Lecturers III (Long Term): $11,228.90

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.
