About the role

This course is designed to prepare teacher candidates to teach students Social Science at the Grade 7-12 level in a thoughtful and interactive way. It focuses primarily on Social Science at the Senior level. Teacher candidates will explore a variety of teaching techniques, engage in inquiry, and present Social Science content in unique ways. The course emphasizes making Social Science meaningful for children and promoting positive attitudes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, organize, and teach this graduate course
  • Be available to students seeking assistance between classes
  • Evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work
  • Attend a pre-course planning/preparation meeting with the course instructional team
  • Attend MT All-Instructor Meetings (AIM) and submit course syllabus as requested by the department

Requirements

Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience, demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter, excellence in teaching including online teaching, knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion, and excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates' professional learning. An Ontario Teaching certificate is an asset.

Pay

As of September 1, 2026, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. As of January 1, 2027, the minimum stipend is $9972.475 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.

Schedule

Tuesday and Thursday, 13:00 - 16:00
