Responsibilities

• Respond to customer needs for service of equipment through maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning systems with assistance from a Master or Lead Service Technician.
• Perform prescribed, routine maintenance procedures on supermarket refrigeration systems and self-contained temperature-controlled merchandisers.
• Conduct preventative maintenance tasks such as compressor change assists, leak searching, and coil washing.
• Acquire knowledge through on-the-job training, including new product development, service bulletins, and computer-based training.
• Complete necessary documents (work tickets and timesheets) and electronic communication accurately and timely.
• Utilize a hand-held computer for customer paperwork and invoicing requirements.
• Maintain and manage truck inventory neatly and adhere to vehicle maintenance program guidelines.
• Identify and use standard tools of the trade, including refrigerant recovery equipment.
• Develop and maintain excellent customer relations, professionally articulating equipment and system malfunctions.
• Service conventional refrigeration systems, parallel rack systems, walk-in coolers, and other commonly used refrigeration units.
• Demonstrate understanding of refrigerant and oil properties, sub-cooling, superheat, psychometrics, copper-to-copper brazing, and refrigerated fixture airflow.
• Read and understand temperature and pressure charts.
• Conduct basic electrical troubleshooting and refrigeration cycle diagnostics.
• Safely handle R290 refrigerant and other hazardous materials such as dry nitrogen.
• De-ice case and walk-in evaporator coils, replace fan motors, and wash condenser coils.
• Understand system evacuation and charging, system pump down, and system defrost.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (HVAC-R Technical School Degree preferred).
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the field or 0 years with Certification from a Technical School (1 year as a General Laborer with OJT & Skills Assessment for internal candidates).
• Valid driver’s license and safe driving record in accordance with fleet policy.
• Physical ability to walk distances, bench and crouch, climb ladders, work at high elevations, and lift/carry objects up to fifty pounds repetitively.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, and highly motivated.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, including knowledge of basic maintenance tasks and use of hand tools.
• Familiarity with HVAC heating and cooling concepts and basic electrical schematics.
• Ability to work nights and/or weekends as required.
• Working knowledge of basic refrigeration and/or commercial refrigeration and HVAC preferred.
• EPA 608 Universal Certification.
• Superior decision-making ability and paperwork skills.
