About the role
Performs diagnostic and service work on residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories under general supervision. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customers.
Responsibilities
- Performs residential and/or light commercial service and maintenance calls under general supervision
- Analyzes, diagnoses, and resolves customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner
- Diagnoses and performs services on heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment as well as accessories
- Inspects equipment and performs diagnostics to identify potential problems and prevent premature breakdowns or callbacks
- Completes routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as needed or required
- Responsible for delivery and removal of parts and equipment needed to complete service work
- Records all required information on customer calls using a hand-held device; completes all forms and paperwork neatly, timely, and accurately
- Collects payment from customers
- Communicates with dispatch to provide accurate status updates on activities and availability
- Delivers excellent customer service and sustains high levels of customer satisfaction
- Promotes products and services to customers; reports replacement product sales leads to the Sales and Service Coordinator
- Ensures proper use, maintenance, and accounting of company property, vehicles, and tools
- Represents the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters
- Follows standard procedures, ensures company vehicle is properly stocked, returns defective warranty parts, and replenishes vehicle stock as needed
- Performs similar or other duties as assigned
- Maintains regular, reliable attendance
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED with additional training and 2+ years’ experience in HVAC; technical training certification required
- 4+ years of experience in HVAC
- All valid licensing or certification required by federal, state, provincial, or local laws for the geographical work area (e.g., EPA and safety certifications)
- Skilled at servicing heating, air conditioning, ventilation equipment, and related accessories
- Proficient mechanical aptitude and ability to operate all necessary tools and equipment
- Proficient at reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems on HVAC equipment
- Proficient at starting up and balancing airflow, aligning belts and pulleys on systems with little or no supervision
- Able to install basic duct fittings
- Proficient at troubleshooting and repairing electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water systems, steam boiler systems, humidifiers, and related equipment with little or no supervision
- Effective communication skills to resolve customer issues, complaints, or concerns
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Available to work flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed
Skills
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces to access HVAC units
- Ability to continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions (e.g., hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, dry, humid, slippery surfaces, heights, and congested areas)
- Ability to safely climb 300lb load capacity rated ladders with a 30lb tool belt
- Natural or corrected vision for close, distance, and peripheral focus with normal depth perception
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
