Service Technician II

About the role

Performs diagnostic and service work on residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories under minimal supervision. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete satisfaction. Promotes products and services to customers and works under the direction of the Field Supervisor or General Manager.

Responsibilities

• Perform residential and/or light commercial service and maintenance calls with minimal supervision
• Analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner
• Diagnose and perform services on heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment as well as accessories
• Inspect equipment and perform diagnostics to identify potential problems and prevent premature breakdowns or callbacks
• Complete routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as needed or required
• Responsible for delivery and removal of parts and equipment needed to complete service work
• Record all required information on customer calls using a hand-held device; complete all forms and paperwork neatly, timely, and accurately
• Collect payment from customers
• Communicate with dispatch to provide accurate status updates on activities and availability
• Deliver excellent customer service and sustain high levels of customer satisfaction
• Promote products and services to customers; generate and report replacement product sales leads
• Ensure proper use, maintenance, and accounting of company property, vehicles, and tools
• Represent the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters
• Follow standard procedures and processes; maintain proper vehicle stock, return defective warranty parts, and replenish stock as needed
• Perform similar or other duties as assigned
• Maintain regular, reliable attendance

Requirements

• Associate's degree or certification in HVAC or related field, or 2-5 years of previous experience
• 5-10 years’ experience in HVAC with technical training certification
• All valid licensing or certification required by federal, state, provincial, or local laws for the geographical work area
• EPA and safety certifications
• Solid understanding of HVAC systems and previous experience as an Installer, Maintenance, or Service Technician
• Ability to work independently and possess good problem-solving skills
• Proficient mechanical aptitude and ability to operate all necessary tools and equipment
• Proficient at reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems on HVAC equipment
• Proficient at starting up and balancing airflow, aligning belts and pulleys on all systems with little to no supervision
• Proficient at installing basic duct fittings
• Proficient at troubleshooting and repairing electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water systems, steam boiler systems, humidifiers, and related equipment with little to no supervision
• Effective communication skills to resolve customer issues, complaints, or concerns
• Effective and efficient time-management and organizational skills
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Available to work flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed

Skills

• Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces
• Ability to continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl
• Ability to work in various environmental conditions (hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, dry, humid, slippery surfaces, heights, and congested areas)
• Ability to safely climb 300lb load capacity rated ladders with a 30lb tool belt
• Natural or corrected vision for close, distance, and peripheral vision with normal depth perception
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds

Minimum Experience: 4+ years
Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
