About the role
The Service Technician position is an entry-to-mid-level technician responsible for performing assigned vehicle maintenance and repairs with supervision. This role develops mechanical skills, maintains high-quality work, and supports the service department in delivering exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
- Perform work outlined on repair orders efficiently and accurately according to dealership and factory standards
- Diagnose vehicle problems based on customer complaints and inspections
- Communicate with the parts department to obtain required parts
- Save and tag parts under warranty or as requested by customers
- Examine vehicles for additional safety or service needs and communicate findings to the service advisor
- Notify service advisor if work outlined is unnecessary or cannot be completed within promised time
- Document all work performed and recommended on repair orders
- Road test vehicles
- Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events
- Keep current on manufacturer technical bulletins
- Inspect and test drive newly delivered vehicles for obvious damage, missing components, and drivability
- Install optional equipment as specified by customers or dealership
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
- Ensure vehicles are kept clean and notify service advisor of any issues affecting appearance or condition
- Maintain a neat and organized shop area
- Maintain accountability for dealership-owned tools and manuals, returning them properly and in good condition
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know)
- Operate all tools and equipment safely and report any safety concerns immediately
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an automotive technician or related mechanical experience preferred but not required
- Basic to intermediate mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license
- WV State Inspection license preferred but not required
- Professional appearance and demeanor
