Overview
The Service Technician assists in the assembly, installation, maintenance, and inspection of American Vulkan Corporation (AVC) products at customer sites and within the facility. This role requires a hands-on mechanical aptitude, attention to safety, and teamwork.
Requisites
- Reports directly to the Service and Cruise Line Account Manager.
- Regular, full-time position requiring a minimum schedule of 40 hours per week.
- Valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, Passport and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), be able to travel worldwide by air, land, and sea with short notice and for extended periods, and an open mind for international travel accommodations, including shipboard.
- Observe and comply with American Vulkan Corporation’s (AVC) rules and regulations.
- Must agree to (and pass) a background check, physical (if applicable), and drug screening.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus.
- Demonstrates confidentiality, integrity, dependability, and cooperation.
- Requires continuous training.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Heavy Industrial, Mining, Power Plant, or Marine field service experience required.
Tasks and Work Activities
- Aid in the preparation, assembly, and installation of AVC products at customer sites and within the facility, ensuring accuracy and adherence to technical specifications.
- Learn and apply AVC parts, applications, and engineering systems used for installation, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Support service projects through effective planning, organization, and prioritization of daily activities.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports for all service activities, inspections, and equipment operations.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with supervisors, technicians, and other departments to ensure timely project completion.
- Show strong mechanical aptitude and attention to safety in all assembly and field operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying and reporting service, tooling, or process enhancements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with AVC standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in English language, including spelling, grammar, and composition, with strong communication skills in speaking, listening, reading comprehension and writing.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing tasks.
- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different solutions or approaches to problems.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in and around personal workspace.
Tools and Technology
- Microsoft Office 365 – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint (if applicable) and department-related software.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Refer to the Employee Handbook for PPE requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Requires physical activity such as standing, walking, lifting up to seventy-five pounds, climbing, stooping, and reaching.
- Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Use of industrial trucks, overhead cranes, hoists, hand tools, and power tools may be required.

Qualifications
- Prepare, assemble, and install AVC products at customer's site.
- Disassemble, refurbish, and rebuild AVC products at AVC factory or at customer’s site as required.
- Troubleshoot product installation and/or performance issues with AVC products.
- Inspect finished products for quality and adherence to customer specifications.
- Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Communicating with persons outside the organization – Representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, telephone, or e-mail.
- Adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures for health, safety and environmental compliance.
- Equipment Maintenance — Performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Planning and forecasting for upcoming workload.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- This position reports directly to the Service Manager.
- This position is considered regular, full-time, and requires a minimum schedule of 40 hours per week.
- Must be able to travel worldwide by air, land and sea with short notice and open-ended extended periods.
- Must have an open mind for international travel accommodations, including shipboard.
- Valid Passport and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) (or able to obtain).
- Valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
- Must agree to (and pass) a background check, physical (if applicable), and drug screening testing.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) a plus.
- Heavy Industrial, Mining, Power Plant or Marine field service experience required.
- Confidentiality – The ability to limit access and use of information and documents to authorized persons.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one year of vocational training in related field.
- Computer/Tablet – Microsoft Office 365 software – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint (if applicable)
- Variety of hand and power tools based on the job assignment.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Refer to the Employee Handbook for PPE requirements.
- AVC may release additional PPE requirements or policy based on unforeseen causes.
- Traveling employees must also comply with the AVC Travel Handbook.
