About the Role
The Plant Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of all Plant Service systems, including boiler, compressed air, and refrigeration, in a safe and efficient manner. The primary focus is on eliminating breakdowns. This role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager and works closely with the maintenance team, occasionally supervising an apprentice millwright or production helper.
Responsibilities
- Repairs, replaces, or corrects equipment to ensure it operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements.
- Consults with engineers and vendors as needed and performs layout work for projects.
- Troubleshoots equipment issues.
- Complies with all safety, environmental, food handling, and company policies or regulations.
- Participates in team meetings and contributes to team development, communication, and implementation of best practices.
- Identifies and addresses areas lacking cohesiveness, working to resolve issues and achieve synergy within the organization.
- Familiarizes themselves with Simmons' operating systems (e.g., quality, security, LEAN) and supports these systems.
- Performs other duties as necessary to support business objectives.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; good command of the English language (written and spoken).
- Experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics.
- Ability to lift or move objects weighing 75-150 pounds.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures, on feet for entire shifts, and in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, or dirty areas with noise levels above 90 decibels.
- Must use appropriate PPE, including footwear and hearing protection.
- Willingness to work overtime when requested.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical College or Vocational training.
- Mid to Senior Level experience in industrial engineering, electrical, and mechanical repair.
- Experience in poultry or food processing industries.
Skills
- Strong communication skills and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work effectively with others and leadership teams.
Physical Activities
- Enters and locates information on a computer, often verifying small print.
- Works in extreme temperatures, on feet for entire shifts, and in challenging environments (e.g., cramped, elevated, wet, or dirty areas).
- Exposure to noise levels above 90 decibels.
