About the Role
The Server provides prompt and courteous service to ensure guests have an enjoyable experience. This position also maintains the cleanliness and guest-ready appearance of the outlet.
Character traits of honesty and trustworthiness are essential, as associates have access to guestrooms and property. Potential associates must pass appropriate security clearances.
Requirements
- One year of experience in a food and beverage position preferred; experience with chain food and retail outlets is a plus.
- Ability to perform major life activities: standing, lifting, bending, learning, reading, concentrating, thinking, and communicating.
- Ability to push or pull 60 pounds unassisted and lift and/or carry 30 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to stand for eight hours, bend, stretch, and reach.
- Ability to see, hear, and communicate effectively with guests and associates.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and consistently maintain the dining area and supplies in a guest-ready atmosphere.
- Process guest charges and gratuities in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain safety and security practices, including thorough knowledge of emergency procedures.
- Ensure guests are provided with the highest quality product and service.
- Complete daily side work, including stocking, and may assist with ordering, cost control, and maintaining quality of items served.
- Maintain certification from a brand-approved responsible vendor training program.
- Perform other duties as assigned, provided the associate is capable.
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of age requirements for serving alcoholic beverages, menu items, preparation methods, and beverage choices.
- Familiarity with brand standards of operation, property layout, staff, services, hours, room types, rates, and discounts.
- Awareness of daily hotel operations, events, and updates via bulletin boards or new procedures.
- Service-minded, friendly, and professional behavior with a welcoming and personable demeanor.
- Computer literacy to operate the property management system: post charges, compute bills, collect payment, and make change.
- Ability to sell, suggest, and serve quality food and beverage items per standards.
- Ability to multitask while remaining guest-service focused.
- Effective communication with guests and associates to resolve issues professionally and maintain a hospitable attitude.
- Ability to work as a team member in cleaning, side work, food preparation, and storage.
Working Conditions
- Physical presence at the hotel is required; this role is not conducive to telecommuting or remote work.
- Standing and walking for long periods while maintaining a friendly and professional image.
- May be required to work any day or shift, including weekends.
