About the role

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is seeking candidates for the position of Transit Police Officer. The SEPTA Transit Police Department enforces rules and regulations, interviews witnesses, patrols properties, maintains surveillance, apprehends criminal suspects, collaborates with other law enforcement, investigates illegal or suspicious activities, and complies with safety and security policies.

Responsibilities

- Enforces rules or regulations. - Interviews witnesses to obtain information about incidents. - Prepares investigation or incident reports. - Patrols properties to maintain safety. - Maintains surveillance of individuals or establishments, records information about suspicious objects. - Apprehends criminal suspects. - Collaborates with other law enforcement while responding to incidents. - Investigates illegal or suspicious activities.

Qualifications and Experience

- Be at least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen. - Possess a high school diploma or GED. - Possess a valid driver's license. - Pass the Pennsylvania State (MPOETC) physical fitness requirements. - Pass a reading exam, medical screening, physical agility test, polygraph, and psychological exams. - Attend academy training at a program certified by the Municipal Police Officer's Education and Training Commission. - Receive in-service training and orientation. - Attend additional 40 hours of training annually to retain certification.

Compensation

SEPTA Police Officers' salaries range from $64,529 annually (as of 8/31/25) to $85,191 annually, based on tenure. Officers with previous service in other Police Departments may receive up to 3 years of service credit. There are no residency requirements for SEPTA Police Officers.
