SENIOR TRANSPORTATION ENGINEER, CALTRANS

Job Description and Duties

The incumbent supervises a Project Design branch. The branch consists of multiple Design engineers responsible for the production of project study reports, project reports, and contract plans for various types of transportation facilities including, but not limited to, freeway, expressway, and conventional highways. Travel is required. PE registration is required.

Working Conditions

This position is located at 703 B St. Marysville, CA 95901, Yuba County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. The incumbent will be working in both an office and field environment. As such, the incumbent will be required to travel throughout the north region. While in the office, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Employees will also travel and work outdoors and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and/or extreme heat or cold.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) a(n) Professional Engineer License. You will be required to provide a copy of your license prior to being hired.
• Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers is required.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle.
• A Statement of Qualification (SOQ) is required. The SOQ is a discussion of how an applicant's education, training, experience, and skills meet the criteria in the duty statement and qualify the applicant for the position. Please include a 1-2 pages, 12-point font, SOQ that describes your experience as it relates to this position/duty statement. Resumes and cover letters will not take the place of the SOQ. Failure to include and complete the SOQ may result in disqualification for interview.
• Describe your ability to work cooperatively with and build partnerships internally among Region and District functions as well as with Caltrans’ external customers, including city and county staff.
• Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with interdisciplinary project teams to analyze situations accurately, identify potential conflicts, adopt an effective issues and build consensus within the teams.
• Describe your experience in the implementation of the Department’s project delivery policies, procedures, standards and other factors relating to the design of transportation facilities.
• Describe your ability to provide new perspectives and/or develop and implement innovative and effective solutions.
