About the Role
Under the direction of the Maintenance Support Office Chief, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the Senior Transportation Engineer (Specialist) serves as the District Major Damage Engineer (MDE)/Project Manager (PM), responsible for assembling multi-functional damage assessment team (DAT) while developing and managing major damage repairs or initiating emergency projects from inception. Incumbent ensures successful delivery of all emergency projects in accordance with the approved Director's Orders' scope, schedule, and costs programmed with maintenance or capital funds, including support costs. The incumbent provides oversight and reporting for all emergency projects to management and State MDE. The District MDE/PM will coordinate with various functional units, contractors, and local partners regarding projects. The incumbent is expected to act independently in pursuing specific tasks that will provide results toward general goals and objectives as provided by the Office Chief.
Responsibilities
- Assemble multi-functional damage assessment team (DAT)
- Develop and manage major damage repairs or initiating emergency projects from inception
- Ensure successful delivery of all emergency projects in accordance with the approved Director's Orders' scope, schedule, and costs programmed with maintenance or capital funds, including support costs
- Provide oversight and reporting for all emergency projects to management and State MDE
- Coordinate with various functional units, contractors, and local partners regarding projects
Requirements
- Possession of a valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers
- Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers
Qualifications
- Current state eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, voluntary demotions) or must be on the state examination list for Senior Transportation Engineer
- For those new to state civil services employment, must take and pass the Senior Transportation Engineer exam
Skills
- Experience managing and/or designing projects (pavement, structures, culverts, facilities)
- Experience working on Emergency Projects/Director's Orders as related to the duty statement
Pay
$11,437.00 - $14,315.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
Schedule
Permanent, Full Time position with hybrid telework options. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs.
