About the role
Stantec is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer (PE) to join our roadways team. The position offers opportunities to work on a wide range of roadway and highway projects, applying sound principles and best practices.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects including traffic signal system design and re-timing, operational analysis, roadway capacity analysis, traffic safety studies, traffic signal, signing, and pavement marking and design, street lighting / illumination design, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS).
- Prepare construction documents and cost estimates for City, County and State roadway and highway projects.
- Perform complex engineering design tasks per Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT’s) design standards.
- Develop budgets and monitor work of assigned team to ensure budgets and schedules are met.
- Coverage with other Project Managers, project team and clients.
- Responsible for design, review and sealing of assigned projects.
- Provide technical advice to project teams and clients on traffic engineering matters.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including urban planners, architects, and civil engineers to create integrated solutions.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate the technical aspects of assigned projects.
- Train developing staff on design and operational analysis software packages for traffic engineering projects.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microstation and OpenRoads.
- Proficiency in SIGN CAD, AGI-32 and micro-simulation modeling and operational analysis using SYNCHRO, SIMTRAFFIC, VISSIM, and HCS and other applicable Transportation Engineering Models.
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, including writing technical reports and memos using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong knowledge of the TxDOT design/planning procedures, and PS&E plan production.
- Experience must include traffic operations and safety; highway capacity analysis; traffic operational analysis; Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); designing and implementing traffic signal system timings; and preparing PS&E plans.
- Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation.
- Able to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies.
- Able to participate and collaborate in project team settings, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) is required.
- TX PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) Certification preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years traffic engineering project experience.
- TxDOT Precertification preferred.
