About the role

The City of Napa is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join the Public Works Department. Reporting to the Deputy Public Works Director, this position serves as the Transportation Engineering Division Manager, overseeing a team of five full-time technical and professional staff.

Responsibilities

  • Leading transportation planning, traffic engineering, traffic safety for all modes of travel, traffic calming, and managing the private development review process related to traffic engineering.
  • Responding to traffic requests and inquiries, and supporting updates of various County-wide transportation planning documents.
  • Advancing the new "Vision Zero" standards and collaborating with the Public Information Officer to improve communication with the community regarding traffic safety education and initiatives.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with major work in Traffic, Transportation, or Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a professional engineer in Traffic or Transportation Engineering, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Registration as a Professional Traffic Engineer or Civil Engineer in the State of California with good standing.

Skills

  • Strong project management skills to design, implement, and manage ongoing projects and direct the related resources, personnel, and activities to successful completion.
  • Supervisorial experience is essential, including providing feedback and development guidance to help staff excel in their job responsibilities.
  • A demonstrated commitment to supporting the development of individual skills and abilities.
