Senior Technical Project Manager — Safety Case (Vehicle / Hardware)

About the Role

Aurora is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager to lead the Vehicle/Hardware safety case to completion. This role involves program management of the safety case, ensuring it stays on schedule, sufficient, and audit-ready. The successful candidate will work closely with Hardware Engineering, Vehicle Platform teams, Systems/Safety Engineering, and the Safety Org to substantiate that the Aurora-equipped vehicle is acceptably safe for public roads.

Responsibilities

• Own the program management of the Vehicle/Hardware safety case end to end, including planning, scoping, scheduling, and driving claims to closure across releases.
• Scope claims impacted by each milestone and platform change, set Definitions of Done and timelines, and coordinate engineers producing hardware evidence.
• Drive evidence to sufficiency, manage safety risk for unsatisfied claims, and maintain a live picture of safety case health and progress.
• Compile hardware inputs for release closure reports, support Safety Review Board (SRB) Go/No-Go decisions, and drive continuous improvement of processes.
• Support internal and external safety case audits, mentor claim and evidence owners, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in technical program/project management, hardware/systems engineering, functional safety, or safety case development.
• Demonstrated experience in a safety-critical hardware domain (e.g., automotive, aerospace, industrial, medical devices).
• Proven program-management skills, including planning, tracking, risk management, and driving deliverables across multiple teams.
• Working knowledge of safety/assurance case methods (e.g., GSN) and ISO 26262, with familiarity in ASPICE.
• Familiarity with hardware safety evidence, including FMEA/FMEDA, diagnostic coverage, and reliability analyses.
• Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, and requirements/traceability tools (e.g., Jama).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and influence without direct authority.

Desirable Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a relevant technical field and/or program-management credential (e.g., PMP).
• Familiarity with UL 4600 and ISO/SAE 21434.
• Hands-on experience with hardware safety analysis tools and vehicle hardware (sensors, compute, actuation).
• Experience with external assessments (e.g., TÜV, ISO 26262) and transitioning safety-critical products to commercial deployment.
• Experience building quality/assurance metrics and dashboards.
• Experience developing process and training materials for safety case or QMS adoption.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $150,000-$240,000 per year. The successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. The role also includes eligibility for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
