Senior Tax Manager
About the role
Reporting to the Tax Principal, the Senior Tax Manager will review complex tax returns, prepare or review income tax provisions, and sign tax returns with principal supervision. You will identify and research tax technical topics, compliance issues, and tax planning opportunities while managing client engagements and ensuring timely delivery. This role involves supervising tax planning and business succession planning engagements, building and maintaining client relationships, and developing staff through coaching and mentoring.
Responsibilities
- Review tax returns, including complex consolidated or multi-state business returns, pass-through entities (tiered partnerships), and complex individual returns.
- Prepare or review income tax provisions.
- Sign tax returns with principal supervision.
- Research tax technical topics, compliance issues, and tax planning opportunities.
- Manage client engagements, including gathering information, project flow, and timely delivery.
- Oversee multiple client engagements, including tax planning and business succession planning, while managing budgets.
- Review tax compliance for forms 1040, 1120S, 1065, and 1041.
- Consult with partners and clients on various tax matters.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and grow the client base.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor staff at all levels, including conducting performance reviews.
- Assist with generating new business opportunities and expanding client networks.
- Identify opportunities to serve clients with comprehensive solutions.
- Provide thought leadership and insightful recommendations on complex tax issues.
Requirements
- BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 9+ years of current public accounting experience.
- 5+ years’ experience leading teams, coaching, and mentoring staff.
- 4+ years’ experience with tax compliance, including review of Form 1040, 1120-S, and 1065 tax returns.
- CPA or EA certification.
- Proficiency with computerized tax software and Microsoft Office.
- Strong client rapport and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.

Pay
The salary range for this role is $161,941.17 (minimum) to $193,722.81 (maximum), with a midpoint of $179,074.22. Final offer may vary based on experience and geographic location. Compensation for Government Services roles is determined by contract with the specific agency.
