Senior Tax Accountant

About the Role

Canon U.S.A. Inc., headquartered in Melville, NY seeks a Senior Tax Accountant (Sr Accountant, Tax). The Senior Tax Accountant will prepare and review sales and use tax returns for multi-states, to comply with state and local regulations. This position is full time and offers a hybrid work schedule requiring you to be in the office Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and an option to work from home the remainder of the week (unless a specific business need arises requiring in-office attendance on other days). Note that work schedules and office reporting requirements may change from time to time based on business needs.

Your Impact

• Prepare and review journal entries and perform account reconciliations, identify account variances and determine corrective action
• Review purchase invoices to determine taxability and review use tax accruals for accuracy
• Review customers’ sales tax exemption certificate, based on state requirements and perform system updates in Vertex and Canon’s ERP system (S21)
• Maintain setups in Vertex O series system for sales and purchase transactions
• Prepare support documents for requests from external auditors
• Research tax rules and regulations for various sales and purchase transactions and remain current with tax law changes
• Evaluate policies and procedures and suggest improvements where necessary, and assist with Robotics Process Automation (RPA) projects
• Operate independently with general direction from manager

About You: The Skills & Expertise You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required, plus 5 years of related experience, CPA helpful
• 5+ years of multi-state sales tax accounting experience
• Requires general accounting work experience and knowledge of GAAP
• Proficiency with Vertex Returns, or similar tax management system required
• Oracle and Tableau experience a plus
• Strong Excel skills required
• Ability to work independently and interact well with others

Pay

$76,150 – $114,040 annually
