Senior Staff Attorney Insurance Defense

We’re determined to make a difference and are proud to be an insurance company that goes well beyond coverages and policies. This in-house opportunity is for a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases throughout Houston and surrounding counties, reporting to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Attorney with considerable trial experience and the ability to independently handle cases from inception through trial, specializing in construction site accidents, premise liability, products liability, and commercial automobile accidents.

Responsibilities

• Handle complex and high-exposure litigation.
• Analyze intricate substantive and procedural legal and factual issues, conduct extensive, well-reasoned legal research, and independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
• Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs in support of defense strategies without supervision.
• Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology-driven environment.
• Communicate with the court, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel in a manner consistent with established office procedures.
• Ensure the prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases.
• Independently prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial hearings, and alternative dispute resolutions.
• Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts on behalf of clients.
• Provide opinions to the Managing Attorney, staff, clients, and claims customers.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school and license to practice in Texas state and local federal courts.
• Knowledge of Harris County and surrounding counties with available transportation.
• Member in good standing of the applicable Bar Association.
• Minimum of 7+ years of civil tort matters experience.
• Documented first or second chair jury trial/appellate experience preferred.

Pay

The annualized base pay range for this role is $132,400 - $198,600. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
