Senior Staff Accountant
About the role
This is more than a traditional accounting role. We're looking for someone who is intellectually curious, analytical, and eager to identify opportunities for improvement while helping scale the finance function.
Responsibilities
Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Perform detailed account reconciliations and balance sheet reviews.
Analyze financial performance, profitability, margins, inventory, and operational metrics.
Assist leadership with financial reporting packages, variance analysis, and executive presentations.
Identify trends and provide actionable recommendations to improve financial performance.
Evaluate existing accounting and finance processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, Logistics, and Product Development teams.
Participate in system enhancement initiatives and process automation projects.
Assist with ERP optimization and continuous improvement efforts.
Support acquisition activities, including financial due diligence, integration planning, and post-acquisition reporting.
Collaborate with private equity stakeholders and executive leadership on strategic initiatives.
Participate in special projects related to business growth, operational improvements, and financial planning.
Assist with ad hoc financial modeling and business case analysis.
Travel periodically to GSM locations, distribution centers, and manufacturing partners to gain firsthand understanding of operations.
Evaluate operational processes and identify opportunities for financial and operational improvements.
Build relationships with leaders across the organization to better understand business drivers and challenges.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
Prepare and record journal entries for revenue, payroll, benefits, leases, fixed assets, and accruals.
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
Absorb and apply new accounting policies and internal controls.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
3-5 years of experience in public accounting (Big 4 or national firm preferred) and/or corporate accounting.
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUPs, Power Query, and financial analysis techniques.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
Ability to communicate financial concepts to both finance and non-finance audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
CPA certification or CPA track preferred.
Experience with audit, advisory, transaction services, or financial due diligence.
Experience working in manufacturing, consumer products, distribution, or inventory-intensive environments.
Exposure to mergers and acquisitions is a plus.
Experience with ERP systems and process improvement initiatives.
