Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Consumer - Risk)

For our client, a leader in the Finance & Insurance space, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer Backend (consumer - Risk) to join their team. This role focuses on work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery, operating within a regulated financial services environment.

About the role

You will lead efforts to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions, collaborating with engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and long-term technology capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex risk platform features from architecture through monitoring
• Drive architectural decisions to develop robust risk detection and mitigation systems that balance fraud prevention and user experience
• Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple teams to create proactive and reactive risk management solutions
• Develop AI-native risk systems to automate detection and response workflows, reducing manual interventions
• Mentor team members, conduct thorough code reviews, and write technical design documentation for complex systems
• Own system quality by addressing technical debt, managing bug fixes, and enhancing operational reliability

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with successful delivery of high-impact systems
• Deep proficiency in backend languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, or Java, with experience in distributed systems design
• Proven ability to convert ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans and architectures
• Experience in leading end-to-end project management, including mentoring other engineers
• Proven track record in leading incident response and driving operational improvements in high-availability systems
• Experience leveraging generative AI while ensuring proper oversight to enhance workflow efficiency

Pay

$191,100 – $191,100 annually
