Overview
The Specialist for Seams & AFC Support is a highly motivated individual responsible for supporting the reliable and efficient operation of the bulk electric system by managing real-time transmission issues at organizational seams (interconnections with neighboring regions) and maintaining the Available Flowgate Capability (AFC) process.
Core Responsibilities
- Concepts and Tools: Proficient with Request Management System (RMS)/Salesforce; develops familiarity with relevant Operations tools and supports junior team members.
- Judgment and Responsibilities: Ensures compliance with SOC 1 controls, develops and administers gap analyses, and takes lead roles in developing and enhancing operational processes.
- Governing Processes: Understands SPP governing documents and provides recommendations for compliance with SPP OATT and related policies.
- Stakeholder Relationships: Coordinates and facilitates meetings, prepares meeting notices and agendas, and develops data request responses.
- Teamwork and Leadership Skills: Supports and facilitates Operations processes, delegates resources, and provides project management skills.
- SPP Culture and Core Values: Understands and complies with SPP culture, core values, mission, and drivers, adheres to code of conduct, confidentiality requirements, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Business or related degree; four (4) years of relevant job-related experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
- Six (6) years of job-related experience.
- Experience in analyzing and evaluating markets behavior, process modeling, and improvement.
- Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards, FERC Orders, NAESB Business Practices, SPP Criteria, Market Protocols, SPP OATT and SPP Business Practices.
- Knowledgeable about and conversant with tools such as the Open Access Same-time Information System (OATI) and scheduling systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing complex Operational processes/procedures.
- Experience in designing and developing necessary internal controls used in Operations Engineering.
- Experience in analyzing and reporting methods to mitigate results identified in analysis.
- Experience in compiling and developing documentation necessary to meet compliance and preparing for compliance audits or filings.

- Motivated to take appropriate expedited action when required.
- Competent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Project, and Access.
