About the role

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Specialist to join our Power Generation team. The role involves leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and executing mechanical engineering tasks for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.

Responsibilities

  • Executing mechanical engineering tasks for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level
  • Planning, scheduling, and leading design projects
  • Developing typical deliverables such as construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates
  • Designing and specifying power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects
  • Collaborating with engineers and designers from several other disciplines
  • Leading as a lead mechanical engineer and project engineering manager, and may include project manager roles

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or closely related field
  • Master’s degree in business or engineering
  • Significant experience with utility-scale power generation systems and equipment
  • Proven ability to plan, schedule, and lead design projects
  • Significant experience with the design and specification of power generation systems for simple and combined cycle power generation facilities
  • Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline to be supported
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported
  • Proven ability to work in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise
  • Design experience with simple and combined cycle power generation facilities
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers
  • Willingness to obtain Professional Engineering Licensure
  • Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget
  • Extensive experience in project execution of Power Generation projects
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
