Senior Scientist I - Mass Spectrometry/Protein Characterization
About the role
To strengthen our Protein Sciences team in our Boston hub in Cambridge, MA, USA, we are seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Senior Scientist, Mass Spectrometry/Protein Characterization. This laboratory-based position requires a proven ability in the acquisition and interpretation of LC/MS data from both intact protein and peptide mapping workflows. Working in a multidisciplinary team, you will apply your expertise to complement the biophysical and biochemical characterizations of recombinant proteins and communicate to stakeholders across the US research organization.
Responsibilities
- Apply your advanced Mass Spectrometry expertise to drive the characterization of proteins across diverse protein classes (soluble and membrane).
- Use your strong communication skills to collaborate with scientific teams across the organization to advance drug targets.
- Provide support for complementary biophysical techniques, including analytical SEC, SEC-MALS, mass photometry, FidaNeo, NanoDSF, and additional methods as required.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: PhD in related field and/or several years of industrial laboratory-based LC/MS experience (biochemistry, chemistry, molecular & cellular biology, or biophysics) + 6-12 years’ experience, BS or MS + 12-18 years’ experience.
- In-depth knowledge of Waters Connect and Thermo Scientific Xcalibur software.
- Hands-on experience and responsibility for Thermo Orbitrap and Waters instrumentation coupled to UPLC systems.
- Peptide mapping expertise and knowledge of PTMs.
- Use of data analysis software packages for sequence mapping and intact mass deconvolution e.g. ProteinMetrics Byos, Biopharma Finder, Proteome Discoverer or similar.
- Knowledge of protein expression systems.
- Troubleshooting and maintenance of LC/MS systems.
- Excellent organisational, communication, record keeping, team-working abilities.
Desirable experience
- Experience with mass spectrometry data analysis of peptides and NCEs.
- Experience with biophysical techniques within a multidisciplinary environment e.g. analytical SEC, SEC-MALS, mass photometry, FidaNeo, NanoDSF.
- Knowledge of the drug discovery pipeline, including translational and clinical pharmacology as it relates to mass spectrometry analysis.
- Experience managing or mentoring junior scientists.

Benefits
Salary: This position's reasonably anticipated base salary range is $117,600 to $154,400 per year. The actual salary offered will consider internal equity and may also vary depending on the candidate's region, job-related knowledge, skills and experience, among other factors.

Schedule
This position is hybrid with 40% of your time spent in the office.
