Responsibilities
- Support technical service and product technical support to Coatings Additives distributors, sales and customers.
- Ensure long-term business growth by demonstrating technical service competencies and bringing innovation to customers and local distributors.
- Identify, design, and develop technical projects to satisfy defined market needs.
- Manage, plan, and execute laboratory work for customer projects, application development projects, and product development programs.
- Optimize the use of laboratory resources and maintain raw material inventory lists according to project requirements and aligned with ESHQ.
- Support laboratory safety programs and initiatives.
- Independently perform a broad range of activities such as experiments, tests, and laboratory processes requiring specialized knowledge of formulating techniques, spray application, and raw material product information.
- Develop, recommend, and implement new or revised tests to promote existing and new products and the development of new market areas.
- Provide technical support to customers through customer visits, telephone calls, and emails.
- Prepare presentations, technical reports, summaries, and analyses of work performed.
- Attend and deliver papers at industry trade shows and conferences.
- Supervise or train other laboratory personnel in the performance of specialized work.
- Maintain team raw materials list.
- Write safe work practices and support design hazard reviews, management of change, and other safety documentation as needed.
- Participate in on-site safety programs and activities.
Requirements
- Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field with 7+ years of experience in formulating coatings for Transportation/Plastic applications.
- Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. with 1-2 years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with 3-4 years of experience relevant coatings/additives experience.
- Strong coatings formulating experience in relevant coatings field strongly preferred along with strong chemistry background.
- Position requires ability to formulate, make, and apply coatings samples in the lab, including by spray techniques.
- Able to set goals and work independently in designing and conducting experiments, organizing data, and analyzing results.
- Good problem-solving skills.
- Computer proficiency required with emphasis on Excel spreadsheet capabilities and PowerPoint.
- Possesses effective and convincing verbal and technical writing skills in English language.
- Proficiency in German language a plus.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally and make technical presentations to customers as needed to proactively support technical sales.
