SENIOR RAILROAD ENGINEER - (CIVIL ENGINEER IV)

About the role

This position is responsible for coordinating and directing the district's in-house and consultant's planning and design negotiations pertaining to railroad relocation, grade separation, and grade crossing improvements associated with the district's highway related programs.

Responsibilities

• Ensures the proper and expeditious coordination of all railroad-highway related activities.
• Ensures the execution of Railroad Agreements in full compliance with Railroad Standards and Policies, Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) regulations, and state and federal policies and in accordance with the district's construction schedule.
• Ensures the accuracy, completeness, and overall design engineering of railroad plans.
• Ensures that ICC orders are issued in proper form and in accordance with the district's construction schedule and provides expert testimony to the Commission on highway-railroad work.
• Ensures subordinate staff performance duties in accordance with the Departmental Safety Code.
• Safeguards the accuracy and completeness of Railroad Force Account work bills and audits.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
• Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
• Four years of experience in civil engineering.

Qualifications

• Experience in highway design and/or construction in the state of Illinois.
• Experience and education working with railroad companies and transportation engineering.
• Experience in using Microsoft Office applications and Computer Aided Design and Drafting software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Skills

• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with railroad companies and transportation engineering firms.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and Computer Aided Design and Drafting software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pay

Anticipated Starting Salary: $6,281 Monthly; Full Range: $6,281 - $9,792 Monthly

Schedule

Work Hours: 8:00 am - 4:15 pm Monday - Friday
