Senior Property Accountant
About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Property Accountant to support a portfolio of multi-family and commercial properties in Glen Allen, Virginia. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing general ledger activity, and guiding the monthly close process with a high level of precision. The ideal candidate brings strong property accounting expertise, works confidently in Yardi, and can manage competing priorities while delivering reliable reporting.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day general ledger activity for an assigned group of multi-family and commercial properties, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
- Lead the month-end close cycle, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and review of financial results.
- Prepare and maintain property-level financial statements and supporting schedules for internal and external reporting needs.
- Analyze account activity to identify discrepancies, resolve variances, and maintain the integrity of financial data across the portfolio.
- Cook up with property management and operational teams to gather financial information, clarify activity, and support budget-to-actual reviews.
- Ensure accounting records comply with established policies, reporting standards, and property-specific requirements.
- Support audits and other reporting requests by organizing documentation and responding to financial inquiries in a timely manner.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in property accounting, preferably supporting multi-family and commercial real estate portfolios.
- Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, accrual-based accounting, and month-end close procedures.
- Hands-on experience using Yardi software in a property accounting environment.
- Able to prepare reconciliations, investigate variances, and produce accurate financial reports.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and controls related to real estate operations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines effectively.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Qualifications
- BS/BA in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent experience.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in property accounting.
- Experience with Yardi software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
