About the Role

WSP USA, Inc is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to carry out the planning, design, and modeling of site grading, surface preparation, stormwater, stormwater management systems, preparation of technical documents, and provide construction oversight in our Portland, ME office. This individual will interface with both internal and external clients and work with teams of engineers, architects, and scientists on a wide variety of projects including site development, water resources, infrastructure, landfills, stream restoration, and soil/groundwater remediation.

Responsibilities

  • Work within multidiscipline design teams on a wide variety of civil and civil/environmental projects.
  • Perform grading and drainage design and stormwater modeling.
  • Handle erosion and sediment control and stormwater permitting.
  • Prepare engineering design calculations and design reports.
  • Use AutoCAD Civil3D for developing surface models and earthwork quantities.
  • Read, comprehend, and prepare construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Apply knowledge of materials of construction and develop construction details.
  • Prepare project permitting documents for local, state, and federal permits.
  • Perform construction inspection and oversight activities.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and maintain strong organizational abilities.
  • Interact professionally with coworkers, clients, and prospective clients.
  • Accept responsibility and additional support tasks as needed.
  • Promote and maintain a safe work environment and company safety culture.
  • Work flexible hours outside of normal business hours if required.
  • Travel to project sites, with approximately 10% overnight travel.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of civil/environmental design experience.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification.
  • PE license or ability to obtain PE license within 6 months to 1 year.
  • Ability to prepare design engineering calculations, reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • AutoCAD knowledge and experience; Civil3D knowledge and experience is a plus.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and abiding by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Civil Engineering.
  • Construction inspection/oversight experience.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training is a plus.

Pay

Expected salary range: $89,600 - $106,800.
