About the role

This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time, Senior Professional, Civil Engineer for our Tacoma, WA office. Be involved in projects with our Civil Engineering Team and be part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and addresses their challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Project/Design: Perform professional civil task lead work on transportation projects for clients in the Pacific Mountain West District (Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Alaska, Hawaii and Guam).
  • Guidance and Leadership: Provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project teams in order to achieve overall project objectives.
  • Clients Interaction: Work closely with clients to meet and exceed their expectations.
  • Scope, Schedule and Budget Management: Support project managers to prepare, negotiate, and/or oversee scope, schedule and budget, changes and risk, as well as plans, specifications, estimates and/or bid packages.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain quality assurance/quality control, ensuring that cost, schedule, and quality objectives are met for engineering activities and are commensurate with quality standards and client requirements.
  • Team Coordination: Coordinate with other design disciplines, and workshare with other offices across the Pacific Mountain West District.
  • Techniques and Practices: Remain current in the latest Civil Engineering techniques and practices.
  • Decision-Making: Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

People & Performance Leadership

  • Growth and Development: Assist in the growth and development of the Civil Engineering/Roadway design team.
  • Mentoring: Mentor or supervise early career staff to support their growth and professional development.

Business Development

  • Solutions Innovation: Collaborate with other local offices and in-house national transportation delivery experts to provide clients with innovative and future-focused solutions.
  • Strategy Development: Support transportation business development efforts, strategy development, client engagement and pursuits in the Pacific Mountain West District.

Requirements

  • Qualification: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field from an accredited program.
  • Experience: 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior civil design experience.
  • Professional License: Engineer in Training Certification. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.
  • Public Agencies: Demonstrated experience working with public agencies.
  • Knowledge: Proficient knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Projects: Established client relationship and industry contacts. Experience participating in business development strategy and implementation.
  • Software: Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.
  • Skills: Working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Communication: Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Leadership: Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
  • Interpersonal: Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Self-Leadership: Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Technical Writing: Proficiency with technical writing, Microsoft Office suite, Revu suite, document control software, discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, OpenRoads, or Civil 3D).
  • Problem-Solving: Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Field Direction: Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Health and Safety: Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Travel: Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
