Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division is seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer - Power Electronics to join our team in Raleigh, NC. This role involves designing and developing high power, three-phase UPS systems and contributing to our growing Energy Storage product line. You will work within a dynamic, global, and cross-functional team environment throughout the product lifecycle—from concept to production. Relocation assistance within the United States and sponsorship support are available. This role follows a hybrid work model (3 days in-office, 2 days remote), with in-office presence required based on business needs.

About the Role

Successfully launch critical power infrastructure products that meet customer requirements and Eaton’s safety, quality, reliability, cost, and schedule commitments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop new products, including SiC three-phase UPS systems (20kW to 2.5MW) and Lithium-Ion energy storage systems (1MW and larger) for critical loads such as data centers and hospitals.

Responsibilities

  • Specify and qualify electrical components (breakers, fuses, SCRs, contactors, power cables, etc.).
  • Create circuit diagrams, harness designs, BOMs, and technical documentation.
  • Develop expertise in power electronics design alongside experienced team members.
  • Collaborate with global product development teams to address performance, functionality, safety, reliability, quality, and component availability challenges.
  • Support product DVT and validation testing in the lab with engineers and technicians.
  • Assist in prototype builds, testing, and product delivery to customers.
  • Engage cross-functional teams to optimize layouts while balancing Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and long-term serviceability.
  • Participate in project-wide reviews of requirements, system architecture, and detailed design documents.
  • Work with regulatory experts to ensure designs meet UL and other certification requirements.
  • Utilize standard processes, tools, and test methodologies to complete project work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical product development OR a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 1 year of experience in power electronics design or development.
  • Strong hands-on experience in electrical design, lab testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret and create electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of electrical components, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Familiarity with three-phase power systems, power electronics, and power conversion topologies.
  • Understanding of layout design principles and experience with schematic entry and PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence).
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of overcoming obstacles to meet schedule requirements.
  • Familiarity with high-power lab tools (480V environments, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and meters).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with three-phase UPS electrical design.
  • Experience applying digital control and algorithms to power electronics systems.
  • Understanding of magnetics design for high-frequency power electronics.
  • Ability to simulate, analyze, and troubleshoot using HIL systems.
  • Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink/PLECS and PSPICE.
  • Experience analyzing and simulating power electronics systems from board level to complex products.

Pay

The expected annual salary range for this role is $94,000 – $138,000. Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, qualifications, market considerations, and business needs.
