About the Role

Amphenol High Speed Products Group is the market leader for high speed, high bandwidth electrical connectors for the Telecom/Datacom market (Mobile Networks, Storage, Servers, Routers, Switches, etc.). Our products help enable the electronics revolution and remain a key enabler for all the major Tier 1 OEMs globally. We are seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer to join our team in Nashua, NH.

As a Senior Product Development Engineer, you will be one of the mechanical design leads on our next-generation high-speed connector products. This role ensures the product roadmap aligns with current and future industry needs while maintaining Amphenol's status as the industry leader in technology. The position involves direct interaction with customers, internal sales and marketing teams, and significant collaboration with manufacturing sites, external vendors, and other engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Understand evolving industry needs and resultant product requirements.
• Participate significantly in automation design, working directly with the NPI and Machine Design (automation) teams to ensure high-volume, efficient, and high-quality production.
• Work directly with the Signal Integrity (EE) team to ensure the mechanical design supports electrical performance requirements.
• Collaborate with the Mechanical Integrity team to ensure high reliability and compliance with industry and internal specifications.
• Conduct and understand tolerance loop analyses.
• Aid in material selection (metal, plastic, surface coatings, etc.).
• Develop initial product specifications and technical documentation.
• Interface directly with customers during multiple project phases and assist in the sales process.
• Work with internal and external suppliers on Design for Manufacture (DFM), prototyping, production tooling design, and qualifications, including occasional travel to global manufacturing and assembly sites.
• Provide technical assistance to product marketing and sales teams.
• Participate in quality investigations and improvement initiatives in support of operational excellence.
• Engage in fixture/tooling design and manage test plans (both mechanical and electrical).
• Actively participate in cost-reduction projects (alternative material discovery, manufacturing efficiency improvements, etc.).
• Occasionally present project updates to upper management.
• Attend industry trade shows, expositions, and conferences as required.

Requirements

• MS/BS in Mechanical Engineering with significant experience in the electronics industry.
• Minimum of 10+ years of industry experience in design, preferably within the electronics industry.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with solid modeling/CAE/CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, etc.).
• High level of manufacturing technology experience.
• Experience in tolerance analysis.
• Proficiency with MS Office suite.
• Good understanding of GD&T methodologies.
• Familiarity with patent (intellectual property) law and the patent application process.
• Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10% domestically and internationally.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of copper alloys and high-performance engineering plastics.
• Knowledge of networking/datacenter/server system architectures.
• Experience with FEA tools.
• Understanding of basic contact physics.
• Basic understanding of electrical engineering.
