Senior Principal Software Engineer (Sign On Bonus Available)
About the role
Join the Countermeasure & Electromagnetic Attack Solutions (CEMA) group in New Hampshire, where you’ll work with a diverse team designing products and systems that enhance military capabilities, protect national security, and secure critical information and infrastructure. As a Senior Principal Software Engineer, you’ll contribute to advanced solutions in Electronic Warfare, Secure Communications and Networking, Radar Warning, and Electronic Attack for defense-related customers. Your work will provide critical mission capabilities to address evolving national security challenges.
This role requires full-time, on-site work at a BAE Systems facility due to the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and onsite work requirements.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to an engineering team.
- Present technical designs at customer technical interchange meetings.
- Analyze, design, implement, and modify complex software (typically in C++) for simple systems or subsystems of larger systems.
- Evaluate complex software designs to identify flaws.
- Keep management informed of progress and results.
- Use and evolve software development processes to incorporate new techniques, minimizing design and product costs.
- Provide top-level technical leadership for assigned design disciplines, including selecting and leveraging new technologies and setting long-term goals.
- Ensure effective communication among engineers, management, and other stakeholders in the architecture and design process.
- Collaborate with Systems, Hardware, and Test engineers across project phases: Planning, Requirements Development, Design, Development, Integration, and Testing.
- Prepare design and project artifacts for use within complex programs or across multiple programs, following established processes.
Requirements
- Active DoD Secret level security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 8 years of work experience (or equivalent).
- Background in embedded and/or application software development in C++.
- Software development experience in a Linux environment.
- Familiarity with software engineering processes, methodologies, and tools.
- Experience with software testing, validation, and verification activities.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and motivate technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active CompTIA Security+ Certification.
- Agile development experience.
- Real-time embedded programming experience.
- Proficiency with tools such as Git, Jira, Confluence, Clearcase, Bit Bucket, and Continuous Integration tools.

Pay
Full-Time Salary Range: $132,962 – $226,035. Individual salaries are determined by factors such as business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications (skills, education, and experience).
