Responsibilities

The Newport Beach Police Department is seeking a Senior Police Community Service Officer. Currently, there is one full-time vacancy assigned to the Records division. This position's responsibilities include:

  • Establish and maintain records
  • Provide training and instruction of newly hired or assigned personnel
  • Participate in the implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities of assigned civilian section
  • Evaluate and work with employees to correct deficiencies
  • Provide information and assistance to other Police Sections, other City departments and outside agencies
  • Implement policies and procedures
  • Responsibility for responding to subpoenas, public records requests, and court ordered sealings
  • Regularly and predictably attend work; and
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Selection Components

Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review date of Tuesday, June 2, 2026 or at 150 applications. Interview: Qualified candidates will be invited to an in-person interview tentatively scheduled on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

This position works three 12-hour shifts.

Retirement

The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 8-10% or half the normal cost, whichever is higher, towards the retirement benefit.
