Senior Physician Communications Specialist
About the role
The Senior Physician Communications Specialist develops and manages communication and engagement strategies that strengthen connections between employed physicians, caregivers, and organizational leadership. This role creates clear, effective communication, supports physician and caregiver engagement initiatives, coordinates new provider onboarding and marketing communications, and fosters relationships that promote alignment, satisfaction, and retention.
The position collaborates closely with clinical leaders, caregiver engagement teams, marketing, physician recruitment, and operational partners to ensure communications are timely, meaningful, and aligned with organizational goals.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage communication strategies and messaging for employed physicians to ensure consistent, timely, and effective information sharing.
- Create and distribute internal communication materials including articles, emails, newsletters, talking points, leadership updates, presentations, FAQs, and other related content.
- Translate complex organizational, clinical, and operational information into clear, concise, and actionable communications for physician and caregiver audiences.
- Manage communication calendars, content schedules, and delivery timelines to support organizational priorities and engagement initiatives.
- Design and support physician engagement programs, forums, listening sessions, and outreach activities that strengthen physician connection, participation, and retention.
- Partner with physician leaders, medical staff leadership, and clinical operations teams to identify communication needs and support engagement initiatives.
- Develop and coordinate communication strategies that promote caregiver engagement, recognition, appreciation, and organizational alignment.
- Create content and messaging for caregiver recognition programs, celebrations, milestone events, awards, and campaigns that highlight caregiver accomplishments and success stories.
- Collaborate with physician recruitment, marketing, and onboarding teams to develop communication plans and promotional materials supporting new provider recruitment and integration.
- Create and maintain onboarding communication resources that ensure new providers receive timely information and feel welcomed, informed, and connected during their transition into the organization.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, caregivers, leaders, and other key stakeholders while serving as a resource for communication and engagement needs.
- Evaluate communication effectiveness through feedback, surveys, engagement metrics, and data analysis; recommend and implement improvements to communication channels, tools, and strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Healthcare Administration, Journalism, Business Administration, or a related field (Required).
- 5 years of experience in internal communications, employee engagement, physician relations, healthcare communications, public relations, or a related field (Required).
- Experience working with physicians, healthcare providers, or within a healthcare environment (Preferred).
- Experience developing communication plans, engagement initiatives, and organizational messaging (Preferred).
- Experience supporting change management, onboarding, or employee engagement programs (Preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in physician engagement, physician relations, or provider communications.
- Experience with caregiver engagement, recognition, or employee experience programs.
- Experience in healthcare system marketing, physician recruitment, or provider onboarding communications.
- Knowledge of healthcare operations, clinical leadership structures, and healthcare communication best practices.
