About the role

Provides functional expertise and ensures fulfillment of performance & service standards. Responsible for consistent operating performance & achieving financial goals. Identifies, defines & solves complex problems that impact the management & direction of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Enables ministry-level or enterprise-wide functional strategy to address internal or external business & regulatory issues.
  • Collaborates with Services Areas, Regions & Health Ministries to ensure consistency & integration of strategy & operations while maintaining awareness of new industry developments & standards.
  • Provides decision support, operations & / or optimization leadership focus.
  • Directs the planning, execution, monitoring, and stabilization of the hospital turnaround / best practice program, including financial analysis, cost reduction initiatives, operational redesign, clinical efficiency improvements, and change management.
  • Serves as the primary consultant and advisor to the hospital CEO, CFO, and Regional CFO, helping them think through complex problems, prioritize initiatives, evaluate trade-offs, and make data-driven decisions under time pressure.
  • Identifies operational, financial, and clinical performance gaps, rapidly assesses root causes, and determines required solutions and support needed from System Office subject matter experts.
  • Acts as the key connector between the hospital and System Office SMEs; facilitates timely engagement, coordinates resources, escalates barriers effectively, and ensures solutions are implemented and monitored at the hospital level.
  • Collaborates with System Office subject matter experts to document turnaround strategies, best practices, project plans, timelines, KPIs, and implementation roadmaps tailored to the assigned hospital.
  • Conducts in-depth financial reviews, develops financial recovery plans, tracks performance against KPIs, and provides regular updates and recommendations to hospital and system leadership.
  • Builds and maintains strong, trust-based executive relationships with hospital and regional leadership while navigating complex stakeholder dynamics.
  • Coaches and influences hospital executives and department leaders on turnaround principles, performance improvement techniques, and change leadership.
  • Works independently and proactively in an ambiguous, rapidly changing environment; anticipates risks and issues, adjusts priorities quickly, and drives momentum without constant supervision.
  • Maintains a Working Knowledge of applicable federal, state & local laws / regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of Conduct, as well as other policies, procedures & guidelines in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical & professional behavior & safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare, finance, business administration or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant process and people leadership, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of direct, hands-on experience leading financial and operational turnarounds at acute care hospitals.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading turnaround or performance improvement initiatives in both hospital and medical group settings required.
  • Consulting experience (internal or external healthcare consulting) strongly preferred.
  • Proven strong financial acumen, including experience with budgeting, financial modeling, revenue cycle management, cost containment, and variance analysis in healthcare environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective executive-level relationships with CEOs, CFOs, and other senior leaders.
  • Experience coaching and influencing senior executives and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, prioritization, and rapid decision-making skills in high-pressure, ambiguous situations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable recommendations for executives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word), Visio.
  • Ability to work independently, be proactive, manage multiple priorities, and travel as needed to the assigned hospital(s).

  • Personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, caring, and the ability to inspire confidence and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated experience in change management, process improvement methodologies and/or executive coaching.
  • Strong interpersonal, consultative and relationship building skills in order to initiate and develop productive working partnerships with all levels of management/leadership and staff along with effective vendor interface/management experience.
