Senior Mechanical Project Engineer - Aircraft Interiors (ONSITE)

This is an onsite position in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the company’s immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for external airline customers and world-class industrial design firms.
  • Develop schedules and plans governing engineering development and delivery of aircraft seating products; support the engineering team in execution and adherence to the schedule.
  • Use Product Lifecycle Management and 3D CAD software to design and develop aircraft seats to meet customer and OEM requirements.
  • Create new seating designs based on proven products and modify existing designs to satisfy new customer-driven requirements.
  • Collaborate with the design engineering team to generate details, assembly drawings, models, bills of materials (BOM), and associated production and development procedures/reports.
  • Support aircraft seating programs through the entire lifecycle, including building prototypes, performing engineering testing, completing documentation for procurement and fabrication, and addressing manufacturing problems.
  • Perform design engineer duties such as creating, modifying, and releasing design drawings using CAD software (Unigraphics NX, SolidWorks, Pro-E, and Catia), validating design content, and verifying structural acceptability.

Requirements

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Experience working with CAD software such as NX, SolidWorks, Pro-E, and/or Catia.
  • Experience with full product lifecycle development using 3D modeling in a production environment.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience in the design of mechanical systems for commercial aircraft seating products.
  • Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles.
  • Familiarity with FAA requirements.
  • Project leadership experience on technical development programs.
  • Experience designing parts using various manufacturing methods, including machined metals, sheet metal, thermoformed plastics, injection molded plastics, and composites.
  • Experience applying GD&T in the creation of technical drawings.

Pay

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The range is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
