About the role

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Lighting design team in Phoenix, Arizona. This position will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and maintain high-quality, reliable lighting products for the military and commercial aerospace industry. The role involves working in a 3D modeling environment, troubleshooting complex problems, and aligning product designs with customer and aerospace requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead new or derivative aerospace lighting system mechanical designs of parts and assemblies in a 3D modeling environment.
  • Lead sustainability actions for existing in-field products, working with supply chain and manufacturing to ensure continued product lifecycle.
  • Create and/or support technical and manufacturing documentation.
  • Collaborate within an integrated product or program team responsible to a program manager and associated metrics.
  • Work within international project teams to align product definition and scope with customer, military, and commercial aerospace requirements.
  • Collaborate internally with engineering, management, supply chain, and production teams, as well as externally with vendors and customers to ensure product specification compliance.
  • Participate or lead special tasks such as FEA analyses or thermal analyses.
  • Participate in estimates of effort hours and development strategies for new or pending efforts.
  • Engage in financial or business strategic discussions to locate key vendors, design to cost targets, improve lead times, or consider alternate parts and vendors.
  • Participate in resolution of customer or production issues as they arise.
  • Assign tasks to technical draftsmen and balance workload priorities with management.
  • Travel 10-15% based on business needs.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods and limitations (e.g., sheet metal fabrication, machining, casting, plastic molding).
  • Experience with 3D parametric modeling and drawings in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and an understanding of engineering principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in aerospace design and qualification.
  • Skilled in CATIA CAD modeling and drawings.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $86,800 USD - $165,200 USD. The range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
