The Senior Manager, HR Operations is responsible for leading and continuously improving the core operational functions that support our employees and the broader People organization. This role has primary accountability for benefits, payroll, HR compliance, HR systems, and key employee lifecycle processes, ensuring they are accurate, compliant, efficient, and deliver a high-quality employee experience. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can operate both strategically and tactically — building strong processes and controls while also being willing to step into the details when needed. The Senior Manager will partner closely with Finance, Legal, HR colleagues, leaders, and external vendors to ensure our HR operations are scalable, well-controlled, and responsive to the needs of the business.

What success looks like: The Senior Manager, HR Operations will create an HR operating environment where employees and leaders can trust that the fundamentals are handled exceptionally well. Payroll is accurate and timely. Benefits are administered effectively. Compliance requirements are proactively managed. Employee data is reliable. Processes are clear, documented, and consistently followed. Beyond maintaining strong operations, this leader will continually look for ways to make HR simpler, more efficient, and more effective — building the infrastructure and discipline needed to support a growing and evolving organization.

Responsibilities

  • Benefits & Leave Administration
    • Lead the administration and ongoing management of the company’s employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and other benefit offerings.
    • Manage annual benefits renewal and open enrollment processes in partnership with brokers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
    • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex employee benefits questions and issues.
    • Oversee leave administration, ensuring appropriate coordination of company leave programs, disability benefits, and applicable federal and state requirements.
    • Manage relationships with benefit brokers, carriers, and other external partners, ensuring strong service levels and timely issue resolution.
  • Payroll
    • Provide leadership and oversight of payroll operations, ensuring employees are paid accurately, timely, and in accordance with applicable laws and company policies.
    • Establish appropriate payroll processes, controls, documentation, and review mechanisms.
    • Partner closely with Finance to ensure accurate payroll reconciliation, reporting, and financial controls.
    • Oversee payroll-related audits, tax requirements, and year-end activities.
    • Serve as the escalation point for complex payroll issues and ensure timely resolution.
  • HR Compliance
    • Support ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements as they relate to HR operations.
    • Establish and maintain processes to support compliance in areas such as wage and hour requirements, employee records, I-9 documentation, required notices and reporting, and leaves.
    • Partner with Legal and other internal stakeholders on employment compliance matters as appropriate.
    • Maintain strong documentation and audit-ready HR practices, and conduct periodic reviews to proactively address compliance risk.
    • Monitor changes in employment regulations and assess implications for HR policies, processes, and systems.
  • HR Operations & Systems
    • Lead the development, documentation, and continuous improvement of core HR operational processes.
    • Own the integrity and accuracy of employee data within HR systems, serving as a key subject matter expert for HR technology supporting payroll, benefits, and employee data.
    • Evaluate manual processes and identify opportunities for automation, simplification, and improved controls.
    • Ensure effective execution of employee lifecycle transactions, including new hires, employee changes, leaves, and separations.
    • Develop meaningful metrics to monitor the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of HR operations.
  • Leadership & Partnership
    • Lead, coach, and develop HR team members supporting payroll, benefits, and HR operations, creating clear accountability and service standards.
    • Build strong working relationships across the People team and with Finance, Legal, IT, and other key business partners.
    • Act as a trusted resource for leaders and employees on complex HR operational matters, balancing employee experience with appropriate controls and consistency.
    • Bring a continuous-improvement mindset to the function, proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen how HR operates.

Requirements

  • Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
    • 7+ years of progressive Human Resources experience with significant responsibility for HR operations, benefits, and/or payroll.
    • Prior experience leading or providing oversight of payroll and benefits administration.
    • Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR compliance requirements.
    • Experience with HRIS, payroll, and benefits platforms; experience with Paylocity is a plus.
    • Demonstrated experience improving HR processes, controls, and employee service delivery, including managing vendors and external partners.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Prior people leadership experience strongly preferred; experience working in a multi-state organization preferred.
    • Certification such as CEBS, CPP, PHR, or SHRM-CP is a plus.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across appropriate US geographic markets. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education/training, and a candidate's work experience. Hired applicants are offered annual incentive compensation programs, subject to applicable eligibility requirements. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
