About the role

This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements. You must be available five days per week during designated work hours. The work arrangement for this role is subject to change based on business needs and individual performance.

The Senior Manager Fraud Risk Mitigation leads Paylocity’s fraud prevention, detection, and investigation efforts across the full suite of Paylocity and Airbase products, including Payroll, Spend Management, Corporate Cards, Bill Payments, and Reimbursements. This leadership role is responsible for developing and executing a unified fraud mitigation strategy that protects clients and the organization from financial loss, while aligning with the goals of the integrated risk organization. Reporting to the Director, this role oversees a team of Risk Investigators and guides their work in complex fraud investigations, analysis, and response. It requires deep expertise in fraud typologies across various payment rails (ACH, Card, Wire, RTP) and product types. The Senior Manager drives optimization of fraud detection tools and technologies, manages key vendor and partner relationships, and fosters strong cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive fraud risk mitigation strategy encompassing prevention, detection, investigation, and reporting for all Paylocity and Airbase products.
  • Lead, manage, and scale a large team of Risk Investigators, providing coaching, mentorship, performance management, and fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Oversee complex, cross-channel fraud investigations, ensuring thoroughness, accuracy, and timely resolution, including root cause analysis to identify and address vulnerabilities.
  • Direct the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of fraud detection systems, tools, technologies, and rules engines to maximize effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Develop and oversee chargeback management strategies related to fraud across relevant payment networks (e.g., Visa, Mastercard, NACHA, TCH), ensuring rules are applied effectively to minimize losses.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for fraud losses, detection rates, investigation turnaround times, and team productivity, reporting findings and trends to senior management.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of current and emerging fraud trends, typologies, and mitigation techniques relevant to Payroll, Spend Management, B2B Payments, and other FinTech services.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce internal fraud policies, investigation standards, case management procedures, and workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Operations, Legal, Compliance, and Data Science teams to embed fraud prevention measures into product design and operational processes.
  • Manage relationships with key external partners, including financial institutions, payment processors, and fraud solution vendors.
  • Ensure timely and accurate regulatory reporting related to fraud incidents (e.g., Suspicious Activity Reports) as required.
  • Develop and deliver fraud awareness training programs for internal teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience in fraud detection, prevention, investigation, and/or chargeback management, preferably within FinTech, Payments, Banking, or SaaS industries.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing and developing teams of fraud analysts or investigators, with proven success in scaling operations.
  • Expert knowledge of fraud typologies, prevention strategies, and investigation techniques across various payment methods (ACH, Card Networks, Wires, RTP) and B2B/B2C products (Payroll, Bill Pay, Corporate Cards, Spend Management).
  • Deep understanding of relevant regulations, laws, and network rules (e.g., Reg E, BSA/AML, NACHA Operating Rules, Visa/Mastercard chargeback rules).
  • Proven experience with implementing and managing sophisticated fraud detection tools and case management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic plans, manage complex initiatives, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships and contract negotiations.
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or similar certification is highly desirable.
  • Experience working through organizational integrations or M&A activities is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
  • Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $118,100 - $140,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual bonus and restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined above.
