About the Role
Senior Instructor for the Maintenance University Program, delivering training and briefings to enhance awareness and knowledge critical to maintenance management and execution for U.S. Navy surface ships under COMNAVSURFLANT/SURFPAC.
Responsibilities
- Participate in course development for naval maintenance training programs.
- Provide training and effectively communicate with senior naval personnel and civilians on naval maintenance, including:
- Use of the maintenance assessment process.
- Documentation of assigned equipment conditions.
- Ships force corrective maintenance and tracking of third-party maintenance activities.
- Train Senior Officers on:
- Class Maintenance Plans (CMP).
- Maintenance scheduling tool (SKED).
- Ships 3M Maintenance Program.
- Planning for ship availabilities and managing the Provide process.
- Provide process improvement recommendations to Surface Type Commander Staff.
- Train Work Center Supervisors on:
- Maintenance assessment processes.
- Documentation of equipment conditions.
- Planning and executing ships force corrective maintenance.
- Tracking corrective maintenance assigned to off-ship activities.
- Utilizing the Consolidated Ships Maintenance Plan (CSMP) and preventive maintenance scheduling tool (SKED).
- Train ship Leading Chief Petty Officers (LCPO) to improve efficiency and effectiveness in oversight and management of shipboard maintenance.
- Provide guidance on planning for Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Availabilities, Continuous Maintenance Availabilities (CMAVs), and management of the ships 3-M Program.
- Deliver training on:
- Consolidated Ships Maintenance Plans (CSMP).
- Preventative Maintenance Scheduling tool (SKED).
- Availability Work Package (AWP).
- CNO Availabilities and Continuous Maintenance Availabilities (CMAVS).
- 3-M Program and Organizational Maintenance Management System – Next Generation (OMMS-NG).
- Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analyses, and supportability/effectiveness analyses for total systems at all product levels (concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal).
- Translate customer or product requirements into total systems solutions, considering technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
- Conduct functional analysis, timeline analysis, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to produce hardware and software specifications.
Requirements
- Minimum of 20 years of service in the United States Navy as an officer, achieving the rank of O-5.
- Command experience of at least one United States surface ship as an O-5, with one tour at Echelon III or higher U.S. Navy surface ship staff level.
- Minimum of two years on an Echelon III or higher U.S. Navy surface ship staff.
- Experience providing process improvement recommendations to TYCOM staff on maintenance and leadership areas.
- Working knowledge and recent (within the last three years) experience with current Fleet maintenance policies, processes, programs, and initiatives.
- Experience in a shipboard officer leadership role focused on material condition readiness.
- Experience providing training at the Senior Officer level (O-5 and O-6) and ship's wardrooms.
- Experience in shore management programs.
- Experience providing process improvement recommendations to Surface Type Commander Staff.
- Recent experience (two years within the last five years) in an instructor-related capacity on U.S. Navy surface ship maintenance, integrating maintenance management AIS tools into role-based training materials.
- Recent experience (within the last five years) conducting technical briefs at all levels of shipboard and ashore maintenance leadership.
- Broad experience and knowledge of shipboard systems and material condition assessment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance and base access.
- Willingness to travel 15% - 25% of the time.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Active Secret Clearance.
Pay
Salary range: USD $82,100.00/Yr. - USD $137,000.00/Yr. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
