About the Role
Under direct supervision, this position provides routine operational support to all fire stations, headquarters, communications, and other County departments. Employees function at a journeyman level, handling both routine and non-routine logistical needs such as station pickups, deliveries of equipment and supplies, restocking warehouse supplies, and running rehab fluids. The role may involve assignment to a large operating unit with a broad array of support functions or a smaller specialized unit with focused duties. This position also oversees the Logistics Warehouse and supervises staff in the absence of the Logistics Manager.
Responsibilities
- Support and work any “On Call” situations as determined by management to achieve operational goals.
- Deliver department correspondence or memoranda between Fire Rescue headquarters, stations, and other County departments.
- Assist in inventory control and distribution of personnel protective equipment, rehab needs, equipment, station, and EMS supplies.
- Retrieve Emergency Medical equipment and supplies from area hospitals and deliver to appropriate fire stations.
- Perform routine clerical functions, including data entry, typing, filing reports, processing documentation, and updating logistic-impacted SharePoint files (e.g., personal protective equipment, supplies, special requests).
- Maintain and update inventory databases, tracking spreadsheets (e.g., budget tracking, purchase order balances, gear, equipment, vehicles, rehab), and respond to emails regarding repairs, scheduling, pickups, and other communications.
- Assist with specialized projects to support administrative or operational processes of the department.
- Resolve minor routine administrative and operational problems.
- Receive, sort, distribute, or deliver incoming and outbound mail.
- Assist other Logistics Technicians with loading, unloading, pickups, deliveries, ordering, restocking, and other assigned tasks.
- Support the EMS Logistics Technician with the movement or pickup of standbys to improve efficiency.
- Attend meetings for the dissemination of information as required by the Logistics Manager.
- Participate in training provided by the county or vendor representatives for personal or departmental improvement.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or necessary, related to the position.
- Ensure all appropriate paperwork and tracking for gear or equipment is completed thoroughly and accurately during emergency activations.
- Maintain all county training and certifications, as well as NFPA-required training and certifications for PPE gear, equipment, and tracking.
- Assist with the annual inventory process, maintain perpetual inventory control, and facilitate purchasing of supplies in compliance with Florida Statutes, County Administrative Code, NFPA, and departmental guidelines.
- Serve as a contact with vendors to research and resolve problems related to receiving supplies and expediting procurement of goods.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years of work experience in a warehouse/logistics-related position, including familiarity with warehousing practices and methods, or equivalent experience performing fire station–level logistics oversight (e.g., equipment accountability, inventory management, ordering, procurement, vendor coordination, and logistical support of station operations).
- Valid State of Florida Paramedic Certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License and obtain a Florida Class A CDL with N endorsement within one (1) year of employment.
Skills
- Ability to understand, follow, and supervise written and oral instructions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Fire/EMS office procedures, equipment, and commonly used supplies.
- Knowledge of bloodborne pathogen regulations for handling Fire/EMS equipment.
- Familiarity with the roads and highways of Osceola County and the Central Florida area.
- Ability to operate county vehicles with heightened awareness of safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively and promote teamwork and coordination.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to establish effective working relationships with management, employees, other departments, officials, and the public.
- Good judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency in operating basic office equipment (e.g., computers, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines).
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Physical Demands
- Medium physical demand: Maximum lifting of 50 pounds.
- Frequent (up to 50% of work time) lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to express or exchange ideas by spoken word and perceive sound by ear.
- Good eyesight for production and safety of self and others.
- Physical demands exceed light work requirements.
