Key Responsibilities
- Oversight of daily activities with outsourced investment accounting provider.
- Review and validation of investment-related journal entries, reconciliations, valuations, and financial reports.
- Analyze complex investment transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment.
- Research, evaluate, and implement new accounting guidance and reporting requirements.
- Lead month-end and quarter-end investment accounting close processes.
- Prepare and review statutory investment schedules, including NAIC Schedules D, DA, BA, and E, along with related disclosures.
- Prepare fair value adjustments for impaired securities.
- Review and validate investment schedules for statutory filings, including investment income exhibits and realized/unrealized gain and loss exhibits.
- Assist in monitoring and replacing securities held in statutory deposits.
- Coordinate communications related to capital markets transactions with trustees, custodians, investment managers, financial guarantors, and rating agencies.
- Ensure compliance with contractual requirements associated with surplus relief reinsurance transactions.
- Mentor junior accounting staff and contribute to process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of investment accounting experience, preferably within the insurance or financial services industry.
- Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles and NAIC reporting requirements.
- Experience working with outsourced investment accounting providers or custodians.
- Proficiency with Clearwater or a similar investment accounting platform.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CFA, or actively pursuing a professional certification.
- Experience with private funds and alternative investments.
- Experience implementing new accounting standards and regulatory guidance.
- Exposure to process automation and system integration initiatives.
- Participation in employee engagement, volunteer, or community-building activities.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for business meetings or conferences.
- Flexible and adaptable to support broader organizational priorities.
