About the Role
A member-based nonprofit organization is adding a Senior Housing Accountant to build out the accounting function for its affiliated housing properties. This is a newly created role addressing a previously under-resourced area of the organization, with real potential to shape process and scope over time. Reports directly to the CFO and works closely with the Director of Housing.
What You'll Do
- Create and maintain pro formas, budgets, and multi-year forecasts for member housing properties
- Manage room and board, meal plan, and fee charging structures
- Invoice and process utility payments for local housing entities
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly financial statements
- Own month-end and year-end close for assigned properties
- Manage AP, billing, collections, and cash flow to ensure funds are available for obligations
- Perform budget-to-actual variance analysis
- Gather documentation to support annual tax filings (CPA-prepared)
- Serve as a financial resource to volunteer boards and local leadership, including some evening meetings
- Support ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of accounting experience
- Nonprofit accounting exposure a plus (not fund accounting)
- Comfort with real estate or property-related accounting
- Familiarity with ERP systems (recently transitioned to NetSuite)
- Bachelor's degree preferred; will consider candidates close to completion with relevant experience
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with volunteer stakeholders
- Independent, flexible, and comfortable in a lively, fast-paced office culture
Work Arrangement
Hybrid, based in the metro Atlanta area. In-office presence more frequent during onboarding, transitioning to a consistent hybrid schedule. Some evening availability needed for volunteer meetings.
